October 2022 and Bayer Leverkusen were in seven-teenth place in the Bundesliga. That's when Xabi Alonso was appointed head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. By the end of the season Xabi Alonso had managed to get Bayer Leverkusen into sixth. Over the summer multiple clubs tried to get Xabi Alonso to become the manager of their squad but Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

And to say it was the right choice would be more than an understatement. During the summer transfer window, Xabi Alonso bought 2 players that had been commonly known as nothing better than “mid”. Those two players were Granit Xhaka and Alejandro Grimaldo, both of which are commonly known as the best of their positions in the Bundesliga.

Xhaka played at Arsenal originally before transferring to Bayer Leverkusen. He was in bad form most of his time at Arsenal but has been in astounding form at Bayer Leverkusen. Grimaldo used to play at Benfica, where his talent was hardly recognized, playing in the Portuguese La Liga. Now that he plays for Bayer Leverkusen, he is highly regarded as the best left-back in the world. Xabi Alonso has used all the players on Bayer Leverkusen and even revived a few of their careers.

Bayer Leverkusen have not lost once this season, making it the only team in the top five leagues to be unbeaten this season. If they do not lose a game for the rest of the season, not only will they be on track to win the Bundesliga but they could also win the DFB Pokal and the Europa League.

38 games later and Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have yet to be defeated. 34 wins, 4 draws, 0 loses. Leverkusen are invincible, not only in Bundesliga but in every competitive match they have played.

Giving them the aura that they won’t and never will lose.
